2017 marks our 25th anniversary, so we’ve taken to opportunity to look back over our quarter of a century’s experience to consider how our work varies depending on the fields our clients operate in.
Two elements are crucial to consider when shaping a workspace for a commercial client: productivity and brand.
Staff productivity is of central importance to the success of any business and office space plays a central role in facilitating this. If you create a space that is attractive, vibrant and people-friendly, then you have a much greater chance of ensuring excellent levels of productivity.
Secondly, in commercial sectors workspace should align with (and be a credit to) the firm’s brand. Increasingly competitive markets mean that a brand is no longer a frivolous addition to an organisation: it is a crucial factor that underpins the business.
For example, we recently fitted out a workspace for a commercial transport client whose brand was built on the concept of ‘intelligent mobility’. We chose to fill the space with flexible and multi-functional fittings and furniture to reflect this core identity and to communicate that our client was the living embodiment of their brand values.
Projects for education clients should seek to create environments which foster curiosity and independent thought. With clients in this sector, we aim to create space that is welcoming and promotes learning and exploration.
In these spaces, using bright colours and unusual shapes and designs help bring them to life. Crafting exciting and innovative spaces might provide a student with a spark of inspiration that could impact future generations. This was our ambition at Kingston University STEM and outreach centre, where we created innovative spaces and integrated the latest technology to help inspire the scientists and engineers of the future.
The leisure industry is crucial to the UK economy: relied on by all of us to provide cultural, entertainment and sporting venues for us to enjoy.
The challenge faced by the sector is; how can they create environments that offer customers optimum quality and unrivalled experience. With this in mind, leisure spaces ought to be both visually stunning and built to last, using cutting edge techniques and quality materials, creating an experiential journey for users of the space, as opposed to simply providing a service.
Before starting any construction of this nature, it is absolutely paramount that you and the client are clear on how you will provide for every aspect of their brief, in order to meet the specific needs any healthcare setting demands.
For healthcare clients, the priorities when transforming any space including ensuring that it is ergonomically efficient, durable, hygienic and can adapt to the inevitable introduction of new technology. When we consider the role healthcare facilities play in all our lives, it’s also very important that they feel friendly, welcoming and comfortable.
No matter what the sector, each project is unique and should be approached with creative energy and the client’s objectives at its heart.
